DISCIPLINE RULES/ FORMATS
Indoor Championships
National Indoor Championships:
Qualification:
2 runs on rail line
2 runs on box line
Best scored run from each line is accumualted with Top
10men/5women (irrespective of age) going through to the final.
Finals:
2 runs on rail line
2 runs on box line
Best scored run from each line is accumualted for final
placement.
Age category positions are extracted from the overall results.
Snowboardcross & Skiercross (SBX/ SX)
Timed Qualification is a run down the course alone. Athletes'
qualifying times are then used to seed the heats, with athletes
being given gate preference in order of their seeding.
Where possible, heats will be based around increments of 4
athletes, i.e. 4 in final, 8 in semi (2 x 4), 16 in quarter (4 x
4), 32 in round1 (8 x 4) etc… However, in the interest of providing
all athletes with a racing experience, where odd numbers of
athletes exist, we reserve the right to vary the number of athletes
in particular heats.
N.B. Qualifying highly will always serve in the athletes best
interest
Age categories will run together in heats.
All heats are min of 2 racers with a max of 4 at a time.
All initial heats are seeded based on timed qualification
All subsequent heats are seeded initially by the heat winners with
ultimate gate preference going to the fastest qualifier, and then
by applying the same ruling to the runners up.
Top 2 in each heat qualify for the next round, unless stipulated
by the starter prior to the heat.
Consolation finals are run to decide 4th to 8th place in the
overall category only.
Final positions from 9th onwards are taken from the timed
qualification results.
Big Air (BA)
National Championships: Everyone gets 3 runs, best run counts
for your Overall position. Age category positions are extracted
from the overall results.
This format allows the judging panel to concentrate on each run in
its entirety and provide a calculated score for each run, thus
allowing the placement of athletes from 1st to last in an accurate
manner.
Slopestyle (SS)
National Championships: As per Big Air
Halfpipe (HP)
National Championships: As per Big Air
Jam Sessions (BA & SS)
This format allows for riders to excel on specific obstacles and try multiple times to perfect a trick and all under conditions that don't have the same pressures of the National Championships.
The session will run for the duration stated on the schedules and it is down to the athlete to fit as many runs in as possible to impress the MC and judging panel, whilst still being courteous to other riders also wishing to fit in as many runs. Overall winners will be decided at the end of each session in the following categories: Women, Under 16 Men (Kid & Youth age groups), and Over 16 Men (Junior, Overall & Masters).
SEEDED ATHLETES (BA & SS)
Due to the new 3-run National Championships format, a seeding system will be introduced to provide top ranking athletes with the advantage they would ordinarily be afforded by a final; seeded athletes will run in reverse order at the end of each qualifying round.
The seeded athletes are taken from the previous year's British Snow Tour UK ranking list which is based upon results accrued from the Big Air and Slopestyle disciplines at both dryslope and indoor events. The seeded athletes are listed here, and the full ranking of all the 2009 athletes can be found here.
JUDGING RULES
Studying the procedures and criteria behind judging and then putting these skills into practise is a very complex matter which demands attendance at judging conferences and workshops and takes years of experience to hone, however, in the interest of transparency we are working with our fully qualified Head Judges to create an overview document to inform athletes as to what is rewarded.
EQUIPMENT RULES
All competitors MUST wear a helmet when practicing and competing on the British Snow Tour.
No lycra or speed suits.
